MONTJUÏC 1929
AND THE SECRETS OF THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF CATALONIA

We invite you to continue our journey through time with an itinerary to rediscover the great International Exhibition of 1929 in Montjuïc. In addition, it will be an excellent opportunity to unveil the secrets of its most emblematic building, the Palau Nacional -currently the “National Museum of Art of Catalonia”. During our tour prior to the museum, we will visit the most significant locations of a worldwide exhibition that today continues to impress by the eclecticism of its architecture and the genius Carles Buïgas, who designed the “Magic Fountain”. Besides this, we will reveal the symbolism hidden in Plaza de España, the monumentalist style of the 1920’s period and the sophistication of the rationalist and art deco pavilions.

Theatralized and dramatized tour with actor as Josep Maria de Sagarra, famous writer of the 1920’s and actress as Isabel Llorach, muse of Barcelona’s culture and patron of the arts.

Also available as a non theatralized tour.

The tour starts at the old Pavilions of Agriculture Montjuic and discovers all the secrets and curiosities of the 1929 Exhibition, exploring locations such as the Magic Fountain or the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, dealing with the hidden symbolism of Plaza España and the 4 Columns…The route ends at the National Art Museum of Catalonia explaining in detail the Palau Nacional. If the group wishes, we can visit the amazing private rooms of paintings and sculptures and the Museum’s storerooms with exclusive access to Sala Sert. The itinerary will be complemented by a wide selection of photographic and journalistic material that will illustrate the presence of prominent personalities of the time and surprising curiosities related to the events of 1929.

The tour can be extended by visiting the MIes van der Rohe Pavilion (subject to availability), where our participants can enjoy a cocktail and a jazz concert or a cabaret show, shows that were popular in Barcelona in the 1920s.
